Your Cloud

If there is a horizontal line that runs from the map off your body straight through the land, shooting up right through my heart, will this horizontal line, when asked, know how to find where you end, where i begin... "pick out your cloud"

Blue

Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you'll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me

Haiti Animal Rescue Fundraiser

As have most of us, I have been following the rescue efforts following the Haitian Earthquake pretty closely as of late.  I've decided that I want to do my part in helping those in need.  Lots of organizations are helping the displaced people of Haiti, but what about the displaced and injuried animals?  The beloved pets of those who lost their homes, families and even their lives?  One organization is doing their part to assist these animals.  The Best Friend's Animal Sanctuary is known for helping animals in a crisis.  Whether it be helping displaced individuals find their beloved pets, finding forever homes for those animals whose families have parished or abandoned them, or helping to medically heal injured pets, they do what they can to assist the forgotten victims of a disaster.  Their efforts after Hurricane Katrina were startling.

To learn more about Best Friend's Anima Sanctuary and their efforts to rescue animals in Haiti, you can go to http://content.bestfriends.org/he/vo.aspx?FileID=ada86134-8197-4db3-8ea1-10472d5971bc&m=4178d5561e64034583a68da8a0a72edf&MailID=11316122

To do my part, I've decided to donate 50% of all sales at my shop, www.davita.etsy.com to these rescue efforts.  So, if you've been thinking of purchasing an item, or are looking to help out in this time of crisis, now is the time to do so!

Don't Fret: Spring WILL Come! .....Eventually

I was looking at my photographs today and some of them really made me miss spring.  All summer long, I waited (im)patiently for autumn.  All autumn long, I thought winter photos would be awesome.  Now winter's here and all I can think about the past few days is spring.  Some of this could be due to the fact that I'm a hopeless klutz and adding ice to the ground where I walk is like adding insult to injury.

I've tried to make the most out of winter.  My partner and I have done a lot of winter bird watching at Presque Isle State Park here in Erie.  We go at this time of year more often because, frankly, neither of us are big fans of the crowds that summer invites to our little ecological haven.  However, we also go in the winter because sometimes you can catch some glimpses of some very rare and awesome birds.  Yesterday, we were lucky enough to spot a Black Scoter.  This was my first view of this bird and we had the hardest time identifying it, but thanks to www.whatbird.com we were able to make a positive ID.  Check that site out, it's amazing.

Anyway, I took photos of that bird but they were too far off to share.  Blurry, for me, is good enough when the only plan is to then sit in the car and compare my photo with what my bird books.  Not necessarily good enough to share here, however.  :)

Tundra Swan

Recently my boyfriend and I spent a day birding at Presque Isle State Park here in Erie, PA.  We've done this many times and have always enjoyed ourselves, despite the fact that we have notoriously had bad luck at it.  It turns out that wearing tie-dye to bird watch is a bit of an unintelligent choice.

This trip was a success, however!  We saw a snow goose, a few cardinals, and the thing I was most excited to witness, approximately 30 tundra swan!  I have never seen this bird before and since we were able to make a definitive ID, let's just say I was pleased.  But the best part is when one of the birds sounded a call of alert and they all went flying.  This photograph is one of many I took of these beautiful birds in their escape.

ArtisAlive Festival, Here I Come!

I was accepted to be a vendor at the ArtisAlive Festival in Canton, OH!  This will be my first time participating in an event like this, so I'm nervous but incredibly excited.  The next few months will no doubt be spent preparing for this event!  I had to enter a sample of my work to a jury and I included one of my favorite photographs and some plantable gift tags.  Looks like I'll be busy making paper in the weeks to come!

As a person who LOVES shopping at these events, I'm thrilled at the opportunity to be on the other side of the table, showing my art to those who stroll by.  Who doesn't love a good art festival, anyway?!

Reflection

It's winter in Erie.  For anybody who knows this area, that can severely limit the time one has to enjoy the outdoors.  But think again.  I actually prefer nature photography in the winter.  The contrast of the stark white snow on the trees, the vibrant colors of the Northern Cardinal and Blue Jay against the white snow canvas.  It's amazingly beautiful.
